The call for everyone to help save the environment is much stronger now that we are feeling the effects of climate change. And with recent news of looming threats to our planet, we have to act fast.
Through the years, M Lhuillier has continued to heed that call by coming up with ways to raise environmental awareness and to help save Mother Nature. But the country’s leading non-bank financial institution wouldn’t be able to do these noble projects without the help of its dynamic OPEC teams across its more than 3,000 locations nationwide.
In Barangay Aliaga, Nueva Vizcaya, OPEC Mannalon organized a tree planting activity where together, they braved the hot and humid two-kilometer walk to the mountains to plant seeds of Narra, Mahogany, and other fruit-bearing trees. Despite the rocky journey, the whole team was all smiles and was filled with excitement as they planted around the 3-hectare land as part of their contribution to the environment. Aside from the tree planting activity, they also donated two grass cutters to the local government unit to help with the maintenance of their area.
Bohol is known for its world-famous white beaches and crystal clear waters. Its pristine beaches continue to attract a lot of tourists from all over the globe, resulting in a thriving tourism industry. However, with the influx of both domestic and foreign tourists comes the emerging problem of plastic polluting Bohol’s waters and coastline. Fully aware of this dilemma, the OPEC Sandugo team in Bohol came to the rescue and held a coastal cleanup along the shores of Sandingan Island in the municipality of Loon. The cleanup drive also coincided with the Annual International Coastal Cleanup.
Mangrove trees may not look much, but these coastal plants are integral to the marine ecosystem and can also be lifesavers during natural disasters. It’s because of these reasons that OPEC Norte believes that they should prioritize propagating mangrove shrubs along the coastlines of the Philippines. With this, the team headed to Sta. Rosa, Olango Island, Cebu to plant 1,000 mangrove propagules
From the coastlines of Cebu, we now head to the North for yet another environmental project of M Lhuillier’s resident earth stewards. The team of OPEC Green Valley held a tree planting activity in Brgy. Linao West, Tuguegarao City. The group journeyed to the Cagayan River to plant 150 bamboo seedlings along its river banks, this event is in support of the city’s One Million Trees Movement.
