M Lhuillier (ML), the leading non-bank financial institution in the country today, remains firm in its value as the “Tulay ng PaMLyang Pilipino” following its efforts to support the program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) for the Filipino farmers particularly in the province of South Cotabato.
In celebration of 3rd Farmers’ Day coinciding with the 59th foundation anniversary of the Municipality of Tantangan and the 10th Kulitangtang Festival, ML once again signified its full support to DA’s Rice Farmer Financial Assistance (RFFA) project where at least 700 local farmers benefited this initiative.
P5,000 worth of financial assistance was distributed to the local rice farmers which was made possible through the support of the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) in collaboration with M Lhuillier Philippines.
“The partnership made it easy for the beneficiaries to claim their cash assistance.” regional director Dr. Milagros Casis said during the interview. Dr. Casis added that ML demands fewer requirements for its customers making it more convenient and hassle-free for farmers to transact.
With over 40 ML branches around the province serving every day, the said financial assistance was received by the selected rice farmer grantees smoothly.
Relevant contributions to the country’s economic growth are coming from the agricultural sector, which serves as the backbone of our country. The government is relentlessly seeking for programs that will help this sector attain sustainable development and working hand in hand with M Lhuillier Philippines has become an effective tool in delivering its programs to people easily. And with the support of M Lhuillier Philippines, government interventions are not that hard to deliver.
The event which showcased the municipality’s rich culture and abundance of agricultural resources featured the colorful bahay kubos that were lined up along the national highway. The eye-catching kubos were built and decorated using local crops and agricultural yield including corn, vegetables and palay among others.
The DA of Region 12 has launched the RFFA program recently to ensure adequate assistance to farmers, especially those who are affected by the implementation of the Rice Tariffication Law. Such measure has led to the rapid decrease of palay price in the market that has adversely affected the income of farmers.
Agriculture secretary William Dar encouraged the agrarians to remain focused and determined to ensure being on the right track towards sustainability and progress in his speech.
“This occasion is about continuity, perseverance, determination and focus to accomplish our mandated tasks in pursuit of building a progressive nation,” Dar said. He added that DA is making various ways to establish programs that will help a lot of farmers and fishermen to ensure a more comfortable and orderly life for the Filipinos. Dar further noted that it’s also setting-up programs for the youth to encourage them to navigate their interests in farming.
The activity was highlighted with the distribution of agricultural projects to the farmers. The agricultural interventions include two to three million-peso worth of farm machinery and equipment from DA Rice Program and 1.52 million-peso worth of certified seeds from the Philippine Rice Research Institute and seedlings for Upland Rice amounting to P12,000 from the Organic Agriculture Program.
The beneficiaries also received plastic crates that amount to P50,000 from the High Value Crops Development Program, native pigs worth P225,000 from the Livestock Program and an amount of P7.87M for Bottom-Up Budgeting Programs from the Department of Interior and Local Government.
