M Lhuillier constantly delivers the needs of the community and the environment as it supports the Mangrove Reforestation Program of Silonay Mangrove Conservation Eco Park at Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro.
The project headed by OPEC Batangan president Charity Baet together with area manager Cipriano Pedro Catalan and the OPEC team provided aid to the Southwestern Luzon region employees and Silonay Mangrove Conservation Eco Park staff.
Established in 2011, the 42-hectare Silonay Mangrove Conservation Eco Park is the largest eco-park in Oriental Mindoro that’s managed by the community. The eco-park is continuously being developed as a model for ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change by the Sama-samang Nagkakaisang Pamayanan ng Silonay and the governments of Barangay Silonay in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro in partnership with Conservation International Philippines. It’s part of the provincial and verde island passage wide networks of marine protected areas and mangrove green wall of the Mindoro initiative.
The main purpose of this project is to enhance the knowledge of the community on different kinds of mangrove trees and practical skills in planting. It is also intended to restore the ecosystem of the saline fields affected by saltwater flooding by planting appropriate varieties of mangrove that can withstand tides and floods.
OPEC Batangan together with the Silonay Mangrove Conservation Eco Park team conducted a symposium about the importance of mangrove planting and conservation. This initiative is to create and promote a clean and green surrounding.
